SanctiScriptores

Daily reflections on the Mass readings, based on an examination of the Greek or Hebrew text, an understanding of the historical context and the customs of the time, and informed by the insights of the Church Fathers and medieval writers, especially St. Thomas Aquinas.

About Me

Rev. Mark F. Carrier
I was born in Washington D.C. in 1962. Both of my parents were from farms in the west. My father was a composer of music and a professor at VCU for many years. My mother worked in retail. I wanted to be a priest when I was a very small child. After high school, I worked for several years at a restaurant in Richmond, Virginia. When I thought I was ready for college I began to attend VCU, also in Richmond. After five semesters I applied to the Diocese of Arlington, VA to study for the Priesthood, and was accepted. I was sent to finish my BA at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary College in Philadelphia, after which I earned an M.Div. and an M.A. in Systematic Theology at the School of Theology there. I was ordained to the Priesthood in 1999. I read in Latin, Koine Greek, and Biblical Hebrew. In addition to my regular parish duties, I work with the homeless, something I have done for most of my life. My sister and I used to work as live-in volunteers with indigent AIDS patients at The Gift of Peace hospice in D.C. during the mid 1980's. I love the Mass very much and offer the traditional Latin Mass whenever I have the opportunity.
